Welcome to If I Should Die.co.uk

Welcome to the If I Should Die website, where we hope you can find the information you are seeking.  Our website was created in 2001 to provide as much independent practical information and support as possible and is non-denominational.  It is aimed at everyone, whether they are considering their own death, coping with the death of a loved one, arranging a funeral, thinking about making a will or just needing some comforting words to help write a letter to a bereaved friend or family member.

The death of a family member or close friend is the most shattering and stressful event we will ever have to face. Our own death is something that most of us cannot even bear to contemplate, let alone plan for. Over 600,000 people die every year in the UK, leaving an estimated 1.5 million facing a major bereavement. It is also the one event that each one of us will have to confront and yet very few plan for it, with two thirds of the population not even making a will.

The impact of terrorist attacks around the world and global events such as earthquakes and floods also show that even when we may not know the people involved, we experience symptoms of bereavement and a sense of personal grief for our common humanity.

Reality TV star Jade Goody, who died in March after losing her battle against cervical cancer. has left a book called Jade: Remember Me This Way, about her life. It will be  published later this month with profits going to charity Marie Curie Cancer Care.

Addressing her sons, Bobby, five, and Freddie, four, 27-year old Goody says: "I have asked for this book to be made so that when you are older you can remember just how much fun we had together.  We had so many wonderful adventures together, from horse-riding and fishing in Wales to camel rides in the desert of Abu Dhabi and water fights at Butlins.  These are my most precious memories, and this book will be your keepsake so that you will always remember the good times."
"Some person much wiser than me once said that if you never discovered something you would die for, then you haven't lived. Well, you are both proof that I have lived. I will love you always. Mummy."  We think these are moving and inspirational words, worth sharing.
