Welcome to If I Should Die.co.uk

Welcome to the If I Should Die website, where we hope you can find the information you are seeking.  Our website was created in 2001 to provide as much independent practical information and support as possible and is non-denominational.  It is aimed at everyone, whether they are considering their own death, coping with the death of a loved one, arranging a funeral, thinking about making a will or just needing some comforting words to help write a letter to a bereaved friend or family member.

The death of a family member or close friend is the most shattering and stressful event we will ever have to face. Our own death is something that most of us cannot even bear to contemplate, let alone plan for. Over 600,000 people die every year in the UK, leaving an estimated 1.5 million facing a major bereavement. It is also the one event that each one of us will have to confront and yet very few plan for it, with two thirds of the population not even making a will.

Thought for the Month
We have added a page on Living Funerals as there are an increasing number of searches on this subject.  A Living Funeral is an end of life celebration arranged while the person who is most probably suffering from a terminal illness or has a sense that their time is short. Consequently, they are able to plan and control it so that it becomes a formal way of saying goodbye and allows those around to help celebrate a life.

Living funerals or end of life celebrations are gathering in popularity and allow the person to celebrate their life with family and friends, thank and pay tribute to those they wish to acknowledge and maybe have a good party as well.  If any of our visitors have been to an living funeral or are planning one of their own, we would be very interested to hear your thoughts.  Leave a message for our visitor's forum or contact us on ifishoulddieweb@yahoo.co.uk

The impact of terrorist attacks around the world and global events such as earthquakes and floods also show that even when we may not know the people involved, we experience symptoms of bereavement and a sense of personal grief for our common humanity.

We also hope that you will share your thoughts and experiences with us and each other through our visitors page and also by recommending and reviewing books that may have been helpful to you and your family.
